Senegalese Amadou Gallo Fall was named Tuesday by the North American Basketball League (NBA) president of the professional championship of Africa, which will see the day in 2020.

Fall, one of the vice presidents of the NBA, was Africa's general manager and will step down to head the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

"Amadou's efforts to develop basketball and NBA activities across Africa have been extraordinary and he is an ideal choice to lead the Basketball Africa League," said Mark Tatum, the general manager of the NBA.

"This historic initiative will not only improve the game in Africa but will also provide new opportunities in the media, technology and infrastructure on the continent," he added.

This championship will start in January 2020 and will pit twelve clubs. It will mark the first participation of the NBA in a championship outside North America.
