China's Huawei has maintained its second place in the global smartphone market in the first quarter of this year, Reuters reported.

The US Trump Administration imposed sanctions on the list of restricted companies on the 15th of this month, but the first quarter was not affected.

Reuters, however, cited market research firm Gartner, which reported sales, warned that Huawei's growth would be limited in the short term.

According to Gartner, Huawei grew steadily across the globe in the first quarter, selling 58.4 million smartphones with a market share of 15.7 percent.

Samsung was No. 1 with 19.2% of the market share, and Apple was third with 11.9%.
