Christophe Hondelatte tells the story Edouard Stern Tuesday. In 2005, the murder of this very rich banker in particular circumstances had hit the headlines.

HONDELATTE RACONTE

On March 1, 2005, Édouard Stern was found dead at home, but not under any circumstances. He is indeed dressed in a combination of sadomasochistic latex. Soon behind the banker, the press will discover a completely different man.

38th fortune of France

Edward Stern is not anyone. In 2005, he is ranked 38th fortune of France. This heir, who grew up in a mansion at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, is also called "the banker of Sarkozy", because of its proximity to the one who will become President of the Republic. On March 1 in the morning, Édouard Stern does not show up for work. Rare thing for this business banker always on time.

Worried, his associates, who can not reach him, go to his home. The housekeeper, who has the keys, allows the staff to enter the apartment. In the bedroom, the small group makes a terrible discovery. Edward Stern lies at the foot of the bed, dead. He has been killed. In addition to the body, the dress challenges: Edouard Stern is dressed in a combination of black latex, from head to toe. The kind of outfit that is used in sadomasochistic parties.

The private track

It is this combination that directs the police towards a private crime. Edward Stern was killed with four pistol bullets. They go back quickly to the track of Cécile Brossard. His mistress became his companion. A woman who is said to organize libertine parties with some couples. While digging a little more, the police discover that it is she who initiated Edouard Stern to sadomasochism.

When the authorities question Cécile Brossard, she confesses to have seen Édouard Stern on March 28, but he was already dead, she assured. For fear of being accused, she fled. "He was riddled with shots," she says. A declaration fraught with consequences. Indeed, under the influence of heat, the holes of the latex suit have recovered after the shots. It was only at the morgue that Edward Stern was found dead by firearm. Cécile Brossard could not see that for herself. The police point him out. She cracks.

"A million dollars is expensive for a bitch"

But why did she kill Édouard Stern? From the beginning, the two people had a heated relationship. Cécile Brossard even wanted to leave Édouard Stern, but he could not do it. He then promised him a wedding and a million dollars, as a guarantee of independence. Except that the banker changed his mind and wanted to recover the money. Faced with the refusal of Cécile Brossard, he caused the amount to be placed in receivership of justice, threatening the trial. It is for this reason that on February 28, she goes home, determined to explain.

Édouard Stern believes he can solve the situation by sex. He dresses in circumstance and, while they are in full sexual games, he drops a sentence that will tip Cécile Brossard: "A million dollars, it's expensive paid for a bitch". A sentence she did not support, not accepted, as she explains to the police. Edward Stern was then tied to a chair. She went to take one of her pistols and then came back to him and fired four times.

Eight and a half years in prison

Sex, money, love, a tumultuous relationship: the Stern affair has everything to make headlines, especially during the trial. However, by tacit agreement, the Stern clan and the Brossard clan agree not to go into the details of the banker's intimate life. During the trial, Édouard Stern's messages, practices and letters will not be detailed. No mitigating circumstances are retained in the verdict but Cécile Brossard is "only" sentenced to eight and a half years in prison. Today, she is free and has promised never to speak about the case.
