Fifteen Salvador Dali gouaches, made between 1959 and 1976 for the greeting cards of a Spanish pharmaceutical laboratory, in which the artist expresses his own wishes with exuberance, will be auctioned at Artcurial on Tuesday 4 June.

These gouaches on paper are estimated from 20,000 / 30,000 euros up to 70,000 / 100,000 euros. The works of Dali of this period are in full revaluation even if they do not belong to his surrealist period (1930/1940), the most quoted.

"Beyond the laboratory, it was Dali who presented his wishes and he was not content with a few traits, he was attached to this work," says Bruno Jaubert, director of the Art Department. impressionist and modern Artcurial.

"Apparently there was a lot of fun, many of his inventions, revisiting the Christmas trees in a surprising and joyful way on the theme of regeneration.It is clear that Dali was fully at ease in this order," adds -t it.

The Hoechst Ibérica laboratory commissioned each year end in Dali these greeting cards sent to its customers, each time accompanied by an autograph text of the artist. These works have been exhibited for 20 years at the Dalí Foundation in Figueras.

The metamorphosis, the chrysalis, Daphne, Don Quixote, recurring themes of Dali's imagination, transform the traditional Christmas tree into bright and dreamlike colors, highlighting the benefits of nature and medicinal plants.

Salvador Dali realized only few commissions with the exception of mundane portraits, sets for the cinema or illustrations for books.

This auction house had not made a significant sale of Dali's works since the 2003 sale of the Perrot-Moore collection in Cadaques.
