The president of the French Tennis Federation (FFT) Bernard Giudicelli "will be candidate" for the post of the Board of Directors of the International Federation (ITF) which he was excluded in October, we learned Saturday at the FFT , after the decision of the CAS annulling the penalty of ineligibility he was struck.

In a decision dated Tuesday and released on Friday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport found that the ITF Board of Directors (the "Board") did not have "any legal right, granted by the ITF Constitution, to ineligibility of sanctions ".

As a result, if the post from which Giudicelli was excluded remains vacant until the next elections to the ITF Board in September in Lisbon, the French leader will regain his right to run for office, and he will exercise it.

The presence of Bernard Giudicelli on the ITF Board had been a problem since his conviction for defamation in September 2017 by the Lyon Criminal Court. He had been sentenced to pay 10,000 euros to the former tennis player Gilles Moretton, whom he had accused, while he was running for president of Ligue Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, of having participated in ticket resale traffic.

However, the ITF rules at the time of Giudicelli's conviction provided for the automatic exclusion of anyone sentenced "for a crime or deprivation of liberty".

Bernard Giudicelli held the position of + chairman + of the Davis Cup and was one of the architects of the controversial reform of this competition, whose rights were bought in the summer of 2018 by the Kosmos group chaired by Gérard Piqué, the one of Barcelona's football star players.
