The governor of Hodeidah, Dr. Hassan Taher, reported that the Houthi militia backed by Iran, the smuggling of large quantities of gold from Hodeidah to Sanaa, in anticipation of the possibility of military confrontations with the joint forces, pointing out that the bulk of the amounts of gold seized by the militias back to The central bank treasury, and the other part of the looting by the Houthis of the gold and jewelry sales outlets and the property of the citizens who seized them at gunpoint.

The measures come less than a month after the Houthis transferred funds from the central bank's treasury in Hodeidah to the capital, Sanaa.

The governor of Hodeidah said in a press statement: «According to the information that was monitored by the militias chose the timing of the month of Ramadan, and the truce, to smuggle large quantities of gold, across the north of Hodeidah».

He added that Hodeidah did not have any financial resources to manage its affairs and became bankrupt as a result of the militias squandering public money, looting property and imposing taxes on Yemeni citizens suffering from a bad economic situation, severe shortages of major commodities and scarcity of income resources.
