"Destroyed tank, BMP and over 50 militants": the Syrian army repelled the attack of terrorists in Idlib

Syrian army personnel were attacked by militants who left the Idlib de-escalation zone. As the head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Major General Viktor Kupchishin, said, government forces managed to repel the attack.

“On the evening of May 24, the militants of the Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham * (“ Dzhebhat An-Nusra ”*) terrorist group and allied formations from the Idlib de-escalation zone launched attacks on the positions of government forces in the North Hayrat and Mgair settlements in the north Hama provinces, ”Kupchishin said during a briefing.

According to him, the terrorists involved in the attack on the position of the Syrian government troops about 200 people, two tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, 13 all-terrain vehicles with heavy machine guns.

“The advancing militant groups were scattered backfire and retreated. During a forced defensive battle, government forces destroyed a tank, a BMP, five all-terrain vehicles with heavy machine guns and more than 50 militants, ”the head of the TsPVS said.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, May 25, the militants of Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham fired at Ain-El-Krum and Scalbiyy settlements, which are also located in the north of the province of Hama. According to Kupchishin, the terrorists used more than 20 rockets during the attack. As a result of the attacks, at least four civilians were killed, and another seven were injured of varying degrees of severity.

"The Russian Center for Reconciliation calls on the commanders of illegal armed groups to abandon armed provocations and take the path of peaceful settlement of the situation in the areas under their control," concluded Kupchishin.

Earlier, RIA Novosti, citing a source reported that the Syrian military destroyed the rocket launchers of terrorists in the north of the province of Hama. At the same time, according to the interlocutor of the agency, the militants are practically daily shelling the city of Scalbius and the surrounding settlements. At the same time, the SAR army is strengthening its position, preparing for possible new attacks from the militants.

In addition, the TsPVS reported that the leaders of the terrorist formations are preparing from two to four mined vehicles, driven by suicide bombers, in order to try to break through the defenses of the Syrian troops.

Militants attack in Idlib

This is not the first attack this week by militants "Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham" from the de-escalation zone in Idlib to positions of government forces. The militants launched an offensive on the evening of May 21, when they deployed armored vehicles, multiple rocket launchers and jihadmobiles.

As explained in the Russian Defense Ministry, the next morning, Syrian soldiers repulsed three massive attacks (about 500 militants, seven tanks, four infantry fighting vehicles, about 30 pickups with heavy machine guns and two cars with explosives, driven by suicide bombers) at Kafr- Nbuda. According to the ministry, 150 militants, three tanks, more than 20 pickups, and two jihadmobiles were eliminated.

In the evening of the same day, the militants attempted to seize the settlement of Kafr Nbud and break through the positions of government troops in the area of ​​settlements of Medan and El Haush.

"With the onset of the dark time of day, having lost more than 40 people killed, one infantry fighting vehicle and two pickups, the terrorists retreated," the department said.

In addition, two terrorist drones dropped five bombs on the Zara power plant, located northwest of the city of Hama. Infrastructure object received minor damage, no victims and injured.

In addition, the militants carried out 17 launches of multiple rocket launcher systems from the Idlib de-escalation zone in the direction of the Russian Hmeimim airbase. Nine missiles were shot down by the air defense forces on duty at the Russian airbase, another eight did not reach.
