Tensions are rising in the Gulf region after the United States reviewed its military power in response to what the Trump administration says are serious Iranian threats aimed at US interests in the region. And similar to this atmosphere with previous periods, the things near the explosion, and the most prominent of these stations during the past three decades.

A failed operation to free the hostages
In April 1980, the United States carried out an air strike called the Eagle Claw in the Tabas Desert in eastern Iran, aimed at freeing American hostages in Tehran. But a powerful sandstorm prevented the operation, and a helicopter collided with a transport plane and caught fire, killing eight US soldiers.

The first confrontation between Iran and Saudi Arabia
On June 5, 1984, during the war between Iraq and Iran, Iranian fighter jets approached the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia towards Dhahran and Khobar. F-15 fighter jets dropped F-4 Iranian fighter jets and were the first armed confrontation between the two countries.

War Tankers
The second military clash between Washington and Tehran occurred in April 1987 during the height of the tanker war. When Iranian boats attacked a Kuwaiti tanker flying the American flag, the US Navy responded by destroying two Iranian oil platforms, drowning three Iranian destroyers and breaking two frigates.

Frigate Stark
On 17 May 1987, the American frigate Stark was patrolling the waters of the Gulf. An Iraqi Mirage F-1 fighter approached it and thought it was Iranian, and fired two Exocet missiles, killing 37 crew members and injuring 21.

Operation of the mantis
In April 1988, the frigate Samuel hit an Iranian phalanx, causing serious damage. The United States responded with a military operation called "The Prophet's Mantis", in which two Iranian warships were destroyed, while an American helicopter was shot down and its pilots killed.

Drop the Iranian Airlines plane
On July 3, 1988, the American destroyer Vincennes fired two missiles at an Iranian Airbus A300 aircraft as it headed for Dubai. The incident killed all 290 passengers, including 66 children.

The detention of American sailors
In January 2016, the Iranian Navy seized two US boats that penetrated Iranian territorial waters. The 10 American sailors were eventually released, but this was preceded by the sending of a US helicopter rescue from the Truman aircraft carrier, and the countermeasures by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
