“In the first two months of 2019 alone, 34,300 measles infections were reported in 42 countries in the region. 13 of these cases have been fatal. All measles deaths occur in three countries - Albania, Romania and Ukraine. Ukraine accounts for more than 70% of all measles infections in the region, detected in the first months of 2019, ”the statement says.

It is noted that in just the past 14 months, more than 100,000 measles cases and more than 90 deaths associated with this disease have been reported in 47 of the 53 countries in the WHO European Region.

The report notes that WHO experts in this regard decided to create an operational center to assist the countries most affected by measles in Europe.

Earlier, the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported that almost 44 thousand people in the country had measles since the beginning of the year.

In February, the FAN wrote that the Ukrainian Ministry of Health reported cases of measles among its employees.
