“The meeting was convened at the initiative of the Europeans, primarily the French, who wanted to tell about the results of the contact group meeting held on May 6-7 (to resolve the crisis in Venezuela - RT),” he said.
At the same time, Polyansky called important the fact that it was “not one of those meetings” convened by the United States in order to “give some public message.”
“The qualitatively new moment was that it was not a PR event, but a frank discussion,” he said.
Earlier, Venezuela called on the US authorities to respect the rights of activists defending the building of the country's embassy in Washington and ensure their safety.
