A concert was held today in Gaza City on the ruins of the rubble of a residential building recently destroyed by Israeli warplanes.

The event was attended by young people who sang songs from Palestinian folklore in a move against the Eurovision Song Contest, which is due to open in Israel today.

For his part, Palestinian Minister of Culture Atef Abu Seif said that organizing the Eurovision competition in Israel "is another whitening of the crimes of the occupation, circumventing international legitimacy and violating humanitarian law."

In a statement, Abu Seif said that "the launch of this ceremony from the ruins of the old Palestinian Manshiyeh neighborhood in the city of Jaffa is a rude expose to the mentality of the alternative occupation based on forgery, write-off and replacement."

He added that «this mentality is a cancerous mass in the consciousness of the free world and cosmic culture, and must be eradicated immediately so as not to spread its infection to other parts of the body of the universe and Tnhsha teeth».

The Palestinian minister welcomed the position of artists, technical teams and activists who announced their boycott of the Euro Vision competition in support of Palestinian rights.

The European Eurovision Song Contest is the world's largest music competition in terms of size, number of participants, participating countries and broadcast channels.

Israel won the right to organize it after Israeli singer Nita Barzilai won last year's edition of the Portuguese city of Lisbon.
