“Mutual recognition of two citizenships is important. Today, many people in Ukraine have two passports, although dual citizenship in Ukraine is prohibited. We need to discuss and conclude an agreement with Russia on the status of these people for Ukraine, ”she noted.

According to Moskalkova, people with dual citizenship who are under arrest experience difficulties with the admission of the consul. She cited as an example the situation of the head of RIA Novosti, Ukraine, Kirill Vyshinsky, to whom the Russian consul is not admitted, since Vyshinsky is considered a citizen of Ukraine.

At the same time, Vyshinsky can enter into an agreement only with the lawyer who received the license to provide legal assistance in Ukraine, the ombudsman added.

“The same system is in Russia with respect to citizens with two citizenships, whom we recognize as citizens of Ukraine,” said Moskalkova.

Earlier, Moskalkova announced the release of two Ukrainian fishermen detained in Crimea.
