The White House still refuses to provide Congress with the documents demanded by opposition politicians. More than twenty requests remained unanswered. Inherited by the attitude of the executive, several elected Democrats are now openly campaigning for the removal of Donald Trump. This is the case of the primary candidate Elisabeth Warren. But Nancy Pelosi, the leader of the Democratic majority in the House, is hostile to such a procedure, despite a petition signed by ten million Americans. This Tuesday, May 14th at the congress, a demonstration gathered some citizens who were exhausted by the hesitations of their elected representatives. Reportage.

" No one can block the power of the people, " the protesters chanted. They are a small thirty under a congressional rotunda, who call on elected officials to initiate an impeachment procedure against the president.

Jocelyn Rosalia Garcialas is 29 years old. She is a member of the By the People association. " Donald Trump must leave because it is our democracy that is at stake. What is the message that we give to the next administrations if someone like Trump is not held responsible for the many crimes he has committed? She asks.

The police quickly intervene. Twenty demonstrators let themselves be questioned while singing.

Activists know that an impeachment procedure is unlikely to succeed due to a lack of a sufficient majority in the Senate, but it would still be useful, says Alexandra Flores Cortis.

" We believe that an impeachment procedure will allow the Congress to obtain evidence that it has committed crimes that may revoke it, as well as any documents it tries to hide. We do not want the Congress to continue playing the clock. 45% of Americans now support removal, "she says.

For the moment, most Democrats are hostile to the launching of impeachment proceedings. It could turn to the advantage of Donald Trump who could be a victim of the relentless opposition.
