The US national security adviser, John Bolton, was planning with the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Israel to pressure his country - in addition to Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear deal - before US President Donald Trump came to power, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

"The Bolton plan included the publication of fabricated intelligence information against Tehran and allegations about Iran's violation of the nuclear agreement and threats of a military war against it," Zarif said in a tweet on Twitter.

In response to Trump's comments on the US administration's willingness to negotiate with Iran, Zarif said that the submission of bogus proposals by the United States to negotiate with Iran was also part of Bolton's plan.

Tensions have been rising in recent days between the United States and Iran over the US build-up in the region and Iran's threat of violent retaliation if Washington's interests in the region are jeopardized.

Iranian media quoted Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Major General Hussein Salami as saying the United States had neither the ability nor the courage to wage war against Iran and US aircraft carriers were not immune.

According to Fars news agency, Salami attended a closed meeting in the Shura (parliament) on Sunday morning, where he reported on his programs in the coming period.

The agency quoted MP Mohammad Ali Burmakhtar as saying that Major General Salami confirmed that sending a US aircraft carrier to the region is nothing more than a psychological war, in which America seeks to intimidate the people and some military officials from the war.
