The fighting hotspots south of the Libyan capital Tripoli - Sunday - relatively calm, after violent confrontations and air strikes between the forces of the National Reconciliation Government and the forces of retired brigade Khalifa Hafter.

The areas of Ain Zara, Khallet al-Furjan, Wadi al-Rubaie and al-Suwani are calm, after the al-Wefaq forces attacked an advanced position in some areas.

Al-Wefaq forces have regained control of the positions they withdrew from in the Sawani area during the infiltration attempt carried out by Hafar forces yesterday, backed by aviation.

In parallel with the attempt to infiltrate, clashes broke out in several axes, including the axis of Tueisha - airport south of the capital, and sources said the killing of four of the forces of Hafter, and activists reported the deaths of soldiers of the Government of National Reconciliation.

The correspondent of the island, Bebe Ould Amhadi, said that the first hours of the day did not witness confrontations. He added that planes of the Al-Wefaq forces bombed the positions of the attacking forces at the outskirts of the city of Gharyan last night, while Haftar aircraft had previously bombed sites in Ain Zara and Ben Ghashir Palace south of Tripoli.

Al-Jazeera correspondent reported reports that Hafar aircraft used fissile bombs in Ain Zara, while activists said it also bombed a civilian vehicle south of the city of Zawiya (west of Tripoli), killing and injuring people.

Hafar's forces launched an attack on Tripoli on the fourth of last month and took control of the town of Griyan, 85 kilometers south of the capital, with the support of loyal supporters of the city before moving towards the suburbs near central Tripoli.

However, the army of the Al-Wefaq government managed to push the attacking forces further away from the center of Tripoli, like Al-Aziziyah (approximately 45 km), and gradually stabilized its areas of control despite repeated counter-attacks.

In the last two weeks, the hubs of the fighting have been markedly frozen as neither side has been able to make decisive progress.

Movements of Hafer
Politically, media close to retired Major General Khalifa Hafer said he would visit France next Wednesday to meet with President Emmanuel Macaron.

Haftar's visit comes to France after his second visit in a month to Cairo, in which he again received support from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi supporting the attack on Tripoli.

The correspondent of the island in Libya that the visit Hafter expected comes days after a visit by the President of the Government of National Reconciliation Fayez Sarraj to Paris, where he met Macron, as part of a tour also included Italy, Germany and Britain.

The correspondent said that these movements are not indicative of a possible cease-fire in Libya, explaining that the government of reconciliation requires the return of troops, which it describes as aggressor from where it came.

The Wifaq government called on some European countries - notably France - to adopt a clearer position than the Haftar attack on Tripoli. Two days ago, a Franco-German-Belgian joint invitation was issued for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Tripoli.
