Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Sunday that the construction of the "Trump town" in the Golan Heights had begun.

Speaking at the start of his weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said: "I promised to build a town named after US President Donald Trump and I will tell you that we have found a site in the Golan where this town will be built and we have started the construction process." The new government to ratify it after its formation.

Trump's decision to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, as well as his decision to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem, was appreciated. This week marks the first anniversary of the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem.

Last March, Trump announced recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, triggering reactions from many countries.

The Golan Heights are Syrian territory occupied by Israel since June 5, 1967, and it refuses to withdraw despite UN Security Council Resolution 497, adopted unanimously on 17 December 1981, which calls on Israel to cancel the annexation of the Syrian Golan Heights and to consider its laws, jurisdiction and administration there null and void and without international legal effect .
