This Monday, 62 million voters are called to the polls in the Philippines. They must choose their elected municipal and regional and renew the entire House of Representatives and half of the Senate. These are mid-term elections for President Rodrigo Duterte. Much criticized since coming to power in 2016, he is very popular among his fellow citizens. And this is how he could well win these elections whose result will largely affect the second half of his term as President of the country.

Things are going well for Rodrigo Duterte. According to recent polls, eight out of ten Filipinos say they are satisfied with the actions of their president.

Even if the ultra-violent methods with which he leads the war against organized crime and drug trafficking have been denounced by human rights defenders, who count more than 20,000 deaths since the arrival of the head of the 'State.

If polls say true, Rodrigo Duterte should not only retain his majority in the House of Representatives in the polls this Monday. He also has a good chance of taking control of the Senate.

The president would have free rein to do what he promised. First, restore the death penalty and lower criminal liability from 15 to 12 years. Secondly, to reform the Constitution, with among other things the possibility for him to run for another term in 2022. The opposition, for its part, led a campaign in a stormy context: many of its elected representatives or candidates were accused, imprisoned even for some, in the context of narcotrafic cases, but still disputed by those concerned.
