"Iran's hands on the trigger and patience are strategic and ready for all possibilities in response to the current US mobilization against Iran and the escalation of tension in the region," said Iranian naval commander Admiral Hussein Khanzadi.

"The American presence in the region is useless and has come to an end in the waters of the Gulf and they have to leave the region," Khansadi said, adding that sending the US aircraft carrier to the region was meant to inflame the specter of war.

Addressing the Gulf states, he added that Iran is extending its hand to its neighbors in order to establish regional cooperation that will preserve the region from destruction.

The new Iranian military official made the remarks amid growing US escalation, coinciding with the announcement by the UAE authorities of the sabotage of four ships in the UAE's economic waters near the emirate of Fujairah and off the coast of Iran.

Although no one has yet been formally charged with any responsibility for the vandalism of the ships, the head of the National Security Committee of the Iranian parliament, Hishmatullah Falah Beshah, considered it a sign of the fragile security of the Gulf states.

Despite signs of an imminent outbreak of war in the region, more than one Iranian official confirmed that what was going on was part of the psychological warfare and pressure on Iran to change its positions.
