The trial of Patrick and Isabelle Balkany, prosecuted in two cases - tax evasion and money laundering aggravated tax evasion - opens this Monday, May 13 before the Criminal Court of Paris. The mayor Les Républicains (LR) of Levallois-Perret, in the Hauts-de-Seine, and his wife are notably suspected of having concealed from the tax administration assets of at least 13 million euros.

On the bench defendants will take place Patrick Balkany and his son Alexander also returned for money laundering tax fraud, but on the other hand to see Isabelle Balkany . The first deputy mayor of Levallois recently tried to commit suicide, indicating being tired after an instruction, in his eyes, exclusively dependent. As the law allows, she should therefore be represented by her lawyer.

Jean-Pierre Aubry, a close associate of the mayor, the lawyer Arnaud Claude, partner of Nicolas Sarkozy, and the intermediary Mohamed al-Jaber are also pursued.

During two months of hearing, the couple Balkany will have to explain the origin of the funds which allowed him to acquire the villa Pamplemousse in Saint-Martin and a riad in Marrakech. They are also accused of having undervalued their Giverny property near Paris and not having reported much of their income.

In total, more than 13 million euros would have escaped the tax administration . Property today seized by justice.

The defense of the Balkany has always been based on a simple idea, that of well-born heirs, but the debates will more surely focus on the juicy real estate markets within their electoral stronghold and their supposed hidden fallout.
