In Burkina Faso, a Catholic church was targeted by gunmen this Sunday, May 12, in Dablo, a village 90 km from Kaya in the north-central part of the country. Six people including the priest were killed. The attackers arrived as Mass began and fired on the faithful. This is the first time in the country that a Catholic church is undergoing a terrorist attack.

It was 9:00 am and the Christian faithful were inside the church. Mass had just begun when armed men came on a motorcycle at full speed.

" It was the rout for those who were outside " and " to the different exits of the church, " says a local authority.

The attackers then began to shoot in the air and ordered everyone in the church to stay away from the scene.

" They closed the doors and asked to see the leaders of the church, " according to our source that explains that " the faithful had first thought of a hostage ."

It is thus that they seize the priest and five other faithful whom they make sleep and shoot on them, relates this authority. A security source confirms that at least six people were killed in this attack.

Before leaving, the attackers set the church on fire. On their way, they set fire to a maquis and a vehicle at the health center in the commune of Dablo. The pharmaceutical depot of the health center was also ransacked.

This is the first time that the municipality of Dablo is victim of an attack.

" There was no sign of any threat to this town, " said one resident.
