Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed a location in the occupied Syrian Golan to establish a new settlement, named after US President Donald Trump, in gratitude for his recognition of Israel's sovereignty over the Golan.

Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly session of the Israeli government that he had previously promised to build a settlement named after President Trump, "and I hereby inform you that we have found a point in the Golan where this settlement will be established."

He added that the construction of the settlement has begun, and that the resolution will be submitted to the official government for approval before it is formed.

Netanyahu also did not miss the opportunity to pay tribute to President Trump's decision to recognize Israel's sovereignty over Jerusalem and the transfer of the US embassy to it. Netanyahu noted that Israel "is celebrating this year the opening of the American Embassy in Jerusalem, Jerusalem, so that the Congress's decision has been implemented. "

In March, Trump signed at the White House - in the presence of Netanyahu - a decree under which he recognized the sovereignty of Tel Aviv on the Syrian plateau, in a move that sparked widespread international condemnation.

Israel occupied the Syrian Golan Heights in 1967, and in 1981 the Knesset passed a law to annex it to Israel, but the international community still treats the region as occupied Syrian territory.

Trump has stirred Arab anger and international criticism by proclaiming in 2017 Jerusalem - its eastern and western suburbs - the capital of Israel, which has occupied the Palestinian city since 1967, in a situation not recognized by the international community as well.
