Russian woman Maria Butina convicted in the United States was transferred to the Northern Neck prison in the town of Warsaw, Virginia. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to Russian lawyer Robert Driscoll.

"She is in the Northern Neck," said the lawyer.

Neither the girl’s family nor her lawyers can contact her yet.

“The lawyers are trying to contact her, we would like to hear her, but for the time being we don’t have to talk about it, maybe she will have a connection, maybe not. There is the concept of quarantine, for a few days there may be a connection, or maybe not, ”TASS quotes the father of a Russian woman, Valeriy Butin.

Condemned for "conspiracy to work illegally for the Russian government," since August 2018, she was imprisoned in the city of Alexandria. On the night of Saturday, May 11, it became known about her moving to another penitentiary institution. It was reported that she was transferred from under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff of Alexandria office on May 10, but until recently it was not clear where exactly Butin was sent.

According to the database of the Northern Neck prison, located 100 km south-east of the capital of the United States, prisoner No. 47191 Maria Bultina was transferred here on May 10 at 20:17 local time (03:17 Moscow time on May 11). Obviously, when filling out the documents, prison staff made a mistake when writing the names of Russians.

The prison of the Northern Neck region was opened in July 1995 and after several extensions can now hold about 500 prisoners. Most of them are criminals from nearby districts and the city of Vorso itself, but the US federal government rents a number of premises for its own purposes, WTVR reports.

In particular, in 2018, the former head of the election headquarters of US President Donald Trump Paul Manafort was held here for some time, who was later sentenced to 7.5 years on charges of financial crimes (who was also in Alexandria prison). In addition, NFL star Michael Vick and R'n'B singer Chris Brown were at the time in the Northern Neck.

Recall that Maria Butyna, who was detained in July 2018, made a deal with the investigation after a long trial, pleaded guilty and was sentenced on April 26 to 18 months in prison for "conspiracy to work illegally as a foreign agent."

A Russian lawyer, Robert Driscoll, told reporters that, given the time she had served before she was sentenced, she should be released in November 2019. In turn, in the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the United States reported that the date of release of Butina from custody was set for November 5. After her release, the Russian woman should be deported to her homeland.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the decision of the Washington court, which sentenced Maria Butin to one and a half years in prison, politically biased and shameful. As stressed in the Russian Foreign Ministry, since the moment of the Russian woman’s arrest in the summer of 2018, the Foreign Ministry pointed out that the accusations against her were completely contrived and fabricated.

“The self-contract to which she was forced by the harsh conditions of imprisonment and the threats of a huge prison term does not change the essence. Our compatriot was convicted only for being a citizen of Russia. She was the victim of a tough confrontation between various political forces of the United States and an unbridled anti-Russian campaign, ”the Foreign Ministry stressed.

President Vladimir Putin condemned the sentence to the Russian woman, who called the verdict of the court a lawlessness: “It is not clear why she was convicted, what crime she committed ... They took, grabbed, put the girl behind bars, but there was nothing to show.”

Maria Butina herself during a press conference held by phone said that if she had not made a deal with the investigation and had not given a confession on one of the charges, she could face from five to 15 years in prison.

“The only condition for my deal was to tell the truth ... I violated the law on foreign agents and recognized it. My crime is legal activity without registration, ”the Russian woman said.

However, she stressed that her actions did not cause any damage to US national security, and in fact there are no injured parties or financial damage.

“Nevertheless, they gave me the same punishment as the person who sold secret information to China. This is a terrible disgrace to American justice. I think this is a complete absurdity, ”added Butina.

Speaking about the conditions of her detention in the prison of Alexandria, the girl noted that torture was not applied to her, although she was in isolation for a long time.

Now the family of Russians in anticipation of the release of Mary is trying to find several tens of millions of rubles needed to cover the debts for the work of her lawyers.
