Firmin Ngrebada was appointed head of government on Monday (February 25th) by the President of the Republic Faustin-Archange Touadéra. He succeeds Simplice Mathieu Sarandji who had submitted his resignation and that of his government on Friday, as the peace agreement signed on February 6 wanted.

Until his appointment, Firmin Ngrebada was Chief of Staff of the Head of State . He is a discreet man and very close to the President of the Republic who takes the head of the government.

Far from being a stranger in the corridors of ministries, but a shadow man, Firmin Ngrebada, 51, is a fine negotiator. He led the government delegation that secured the peace agreement between the authorities and armed groups in Khartoum, Sudan earlier this month when he was the cabinet director of the Presidency.

An agreement which provides, in particular, for the nomination of an inclusive government and the securing of 80% occupied territory by armed groups. Man of confidence of the Head of State and former labor inspector, Firmin Ngrebada met Faustin-Archange Touadéra when he was the Prime Minister of François Bozizé, between 2008 and 2013.

The new head of government is also known to have been the one who initiated the rapprochement of Bangui with Moscow. Firmin Ngrebada played a central role in the military cooperation agreement signed between the Central African Republic and Russia 6 months ago.

Central Africans are now waiting for the appointment of Firmin Ngrebada's ministers. " We will know a little more today about the composition of the government, " said the spokesman of the Central African presidency to AFP.
