Vladimir Zelensky won the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine with 73.22% of the vote. This was officially announced by the Central Election Commission of Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko received the support of 24.45% of voters. Another 2.31% of the ballots were considered invalid.

“According to the results of the re-voting on April 21, 2019 ... the elected president is the candidate for the presidency of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky,” said Tatiana Slipachuk, head of the CEC. Her words leads RIA Novosti.

13,541,548 Ukrainians voted for Zelensky, 4,522,450 Ukrainians voted for Poroshenko.

After the publication of official results, Zelensky’s headquarters announced that they were waiting for the inauguration of the elected president.

“According to the processing of 100% of electronic protocols, 73.22% of voters voted for Vladimir Zelensky. So, we officially won the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine! We look forward to the inauguration, ”- said the headquarters of Zelensky in Facebook.

In turn, after the publication of the election results, Petro Poroshenko thanked the people of Ukraine and said that he was happy to hold the presidency.

“Thanks to the Ukrainian people for giving me great happiness to be the leader of this state and this great nation,” Poroshenko told on Twitter.

The announcement of the results fell on the last resolved day - Ukrainian laws require publication of the election results within 10 days after the vote. The headquarters of Zelensky drew attention to this fact and called the delay in the publication of the election results intentional.

"The artificial delay in the announcement of the CEC results is another attempt by the authorities to avoid shameful punishment for their criminal activities," the Zelensky headquarters said.

According to the law, the inauguration of the president of Ukraine should take place within 30 days after the official publication of the election results and their publication in the Golos Ukrainy newspaper. The specific date of entry of the new head of state in the position indicated in a special resolution of the Verkhovna Rada.

Zelensky said earlier that he did not rule out the possible dissolution of the Rada, but according to the law, this can be done no less than six months before the expiration of the term of office of the current parliament.

“The CEC delays the official announcement of the results. Why? So that the Verkhovna Rada could delay the date of appointment of the inauguration, so that it takes place after May 27. Why? So that President Zelensky could not even think about the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada, ”said Zelensky on April 25 in a video message on his Facebook page.

In turn, the CEC explained the delay as a barrier in the form of two lawsuits regarding the inaction of the department, after rejecting which the commission was able to announce the election results.

In addition, the head of the CEC, Tatyana Slipachuk, declared that the department was ready to hold early elections to the Rada, despite the tight deadlines.

“I think if the decision is made on all legal grounds, then we have little chance of being unprepared,” Interfax-Ukraine quotes her as saying.

As an example of potential difficulties, she cited the conduct of public procurement for parliamentary elections.

“We have a question on legislation, which regulates questions on the timing and procedure for conducting public procurement, which in the framework of parliamentary elections will be a much bigger problem than on presidential ones,” said Slipachuk.

"Complete failure of the policy of Poroshenko"

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the results of elections in Ukraine, called the results of the vote a failure of the policy of Petro Poroshenko.

“This is a complete failure of Poroshenko’s policy. Full and absolute. I am sure that the new authorities, they cannot fail to understand this, they understand this perfectly well, we will see at least the first steps, ”Putin said on April 25.

The Russian leader added that the new government in Ukraine has yet to demonstrate its effectiveness to the citizens.

“To understand is one thing, and to build a realistic policy that meets the interests of his people is another,” Putin concluded.

In addition, the Russian leader later drew attention to the words of Zelensky about granting Ukrainian citizenship to all comers, including the Russians. Earlier, Putin said that the simplified procedure for issuing Russian passports to residents of the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass can be extended to all citizens of Ukraine.

“Really, said so? Very good. This suggests that we will agree, probably because we have a lot in common, ”said the President of Russia.
