UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said the humanitarian crisis in Yemen was beyond description and called for an end to the crisis. He pointed out that civilians in Yemen suffer from fighting and destruction in civilian and medical facilities and schools, as well as the continued lack of humanitarian assistance.
The international spokesman said that the international envoy Martin Griffith is working to reduce this humanitarian crisis through engagement in dialogue, a message supported by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced Tuesday that it had distributed basic aid to a quarter of a million people displaced by the war in Yemen in the first quarter of this year, according to a Reuters tweet published by the official Yemen office.
UNHCR explained that IDPs in Yemen often lacked basic elements of life and stated that in response to the needs of Yemeni IDPs, assistance was provided to more than 250,000 people between January and March 2019.
The aid includes basic household items such as blankets, mattresses and kitchen utensils, she said.
According to statistics released by the United Nations that the war in Yemen led to the displacement of more than four million Yemenis (total population about 28 million).
For the fifth year in a row, Yemen is witnessing a war between forces loyal to the legitimate government and militants of the Houthi group, which dominate the provinces, including the capital Sanaa since September 2014.
Since March 2015, a Saudi-led military alliance has backed government forces against the Houthis in a war that has left a severe humanitarian crisis, the worst in the world, according to a former UN report.
