The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip warned of the possibility of a disaster if the collapse during the coming hours five hospitals rely on thousands of patients, because of the shortage of fuel needed to run generators.

The director of Rantissi Children's Hospital, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, appealed urgently to all relief institutions to provide fuel for the operation of generators.

Rantisi Specialized Hospital for Children is one of the five hospitals under threat of obstruction. In this hospital, there is only one section in the Gaza Strip for the treatment of cancer patients, adults and children, in addition to a special section for dialysis for children.

For years, the Gaza Strip has been suffering from a real electricity crisis and power cuts for many hours that make the dependence on electricity generators essential in vital facilities, especially hospitals, which means the need for a permanent supply of fuel.

Several days passed on warnings from the Ministry of Health of the escalation of the fuel crisis and its serious repercussions on the work of the health sector and services, but the ministry has not received any response or initiative to end the crisis from any side.

Abu Salmiya on Saturday urged immediate international intervention to end the threat to health services in the Gaza Strip.

Abu Salmiyeh said fuel tanks in hospitals had fallen to less than 17 percent of the remaining fuel, given unprecedented electricity demand and increasing power cuts.

He explained that this means that the austerity measures taken by the ministry are in their final moments, and that the announcement of the complete cessation of these generators at any moment.

According to the Ministry of Health, the government hospitals in Gaza need 450 thousand liters of fuel per month, to operate generators in the event of power outages for between 8 and 12 hours a day.
