Prime Minister Theresa May in front of the British Parliament, November 22, 2018. AFP

The European Commission and the United Kingdom have agreed on a draft declaration on their relations after divorce, but there are still points of disagreement over Gibraltar, the goods traffic and fishing. Back in London while waiting for Sunday's keynote, Theresa May again spoke to parliamentarians and received new criticism from all sides.

With our correspondent in London, Muriel Delcroix

One after the other, in an uninterrupted hubbub, the British MPs vehemently and angrily rejected the draft agreement that the Prime Minister had come to defend and would like them so much to be approved.

Starting with the political declaration on the future relationship between London and Brussels: " 26 pages of gossip " has won over Jeremy Corbyn, and opposition leader Labor adds: " It's Brexit blindly that everyone was afraid, a leap into the unknown ... "Before concluding:" But what has the government manufactured in the last two years? "

A little over a year ago, the government was very confident that at the end of the 50s we would have a trade agreement with the EU; the Minister of International Trade assured us that it would be the easiest in the history of humanity! But what do we have instead? 26 pages of sales! [...] Brexit blindly that everyone feared, a leap into the unknown!

In the very camp of the government, the most virulent pro-Brexit, backed by the North-Irish deputies of the DUP, have in turn demanded that Theresa May throws back the backstop , the safety net on the Irish border. A Conservative MP even suggested that this very vague political statement actually looked like a " letter to Santa Claus ".

Finally, on their side, parliamentarians of all sides opposed to the Brexit who see there the proof of an agreement much less favorable than promised, asked more than ever the organization of a second referendum.

Four months of Brexit, unanswered questions

Leaders of the 27 EU Member States are expected to give final green light to a final deal with the UK on Sunday at a European summit. But the fate of the enclave of Gibraltar or the question of the future fishing rights of Europeans in British waters are among the main problems remaining to be resolved to conclude these negotiations of unprecedented complexity, about four months from the British departure.

At the head of the problems that have not yet been solved: how not to recreate a physical border between Ireland and Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom? The question has been postponed: the entire United Kingdom will remain until 2020 and possibly until 2022 in the single market.

The question of Gibraltar which seemed settled between Madrid and London is complicated. The Spaniards want to be able to continue discussing with London the future of Gibraltar after Brexit. No question of signing an agreement that would freeze the situation.

Thirdly, of all the agreements that have been fiercely negotiated for 40 years with the British, to which Brexit will end, there are those concerning fishing. Their renegotiation has been postponed until at least 2020, but several countries, including France, already want to link access to the European market for fish caught by the British to access British territorial waters for their fishing vessels. peach.

Finally, cooperation on security remains to be defined. According to the draft agreement between London and Brussels on their future relations, the United Kingdom hopes to conclude in 2019 a security and defense treaty with the Twenty-Seven has not yet secured guaranteed access to databases of the European Union after Brexit.
