The governments of the United Arab Emirates, France, Italy, Britain and the United States have said they are deeply concerned about the fighting around the Libyan city of Gharyan and urged all parties to stop the escalation immediately.

"At this critical moment in Libya, the military situation and the threat of unilateral action will only risk dragging Libya into chaos," the five states said in a statement issued by the State Department in Washington on Thursday night. "We strongly believe that there is no military solution to the conflict in Lybia".
