"Now the Russians are working on a constitutional committee ... They are determined to cooperate in their ideas and other actions," said US special representative for Syria, James Jeffrey.

He noted that Russia has proved itself as a useful participant in the settlement in Syria.

"For example, in January, Russia approved a UN resolution that allows us to continue to send humanitarian aid to Syria through the territories controlled by the opposition, this is useful," said Jeffrey.

Earlier, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, spoke about work on the creation of a constitutional committee in Syria.

The new UN special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, noted the key role of Russia and the UN in the Syrian settlement.
