The first European Film Festival in Qatar will kick off on Friday with the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.

The festival is organized by the network of the European Union's National Institutes of Culture (ONIC), a European network of national cultural institutes, with 35 members from 28 member states of the European Union, and in more than 150 countries around the world.

The festival, which runs until October 23, includes 11 films from 10 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden.

This event is the first of its kind organized by the network in the GCC, and brings together the European Union countries represented in the State of Qatar, which aims to promote cultural and linguistic diversity and develop cultural exchange between European and Qatari youth, organizers said.

A number of films are screened, such as the German film "Cherry Blossoms" by Doris Dorrie, "Behind the Clouds" by Georges Corruga of Portugal, "The Marshlands" by Alberto Rodriguez of Spain, and the film "A Gentle People" by Karen Kleintenberg of Sweden.
