Sheikh Tamim received in the Emiri Diwan Tuesday heads of delegations participating in the 16th ministerial meeting of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), which will be hosted by Doha until Thursday for the first time in two and a half years.

The Emir of Qatar said on Twitter that the Asian Cooperation Dialogue "will lay a new foundation for benefiting from the diversity and great potential of the continent in promoting positive integration and competition among members of this important system."

Al-Saeed stressed the importance of the meeting of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue in Qatar in enhancing cooperation among Asian countries and finding solutions to the problems facing the dialogue process.

For his part, Omani Foreign Ministry official Yahya Abdullah Al-Arimi said that the conference serves as a platform for dialogue among Asian countries aimed at strengthening and deepening cooperation in six different areas that have been approved in advance and expected the Doha conference to produce tangible results that serve the countries and peoples of the region.

"We will see what can be done in the future, especially as Turkey will take over the chairmanship of the Asian Cooperation Dialogue at the next session," said Foreign Ministry official Omar Qushek, who said the meeting had been very productive.

The Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) was established in 2001 and has 34 member countries. Its first meeting was held in Thailand in 2002 with the participation of 18 Asian founding countries.
