The Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of the Coptic preaching Tawadros II looked forward to the construction of the first church in Saudi Arabia, in the first official comment from a church on the establishment of Mass in Saudi Arabia.

"I do not know the nature of the circumstances there, but why not? What is stopping? There are neighboring Arab countries where there are churches," he said in a televised interview on Egyptian television on Wednesday night.

He explained that Saudi Arabia receives thousands of Egyptian workers, including Christians, and therefore "to provide the Kingdom of places of worship are very beautiful."

He pointed to the existence of Coptic churches in various Arab countries, notably the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and others.

Commenting on the establishment of Mass in Saudi Arabia, Tawadros said that "this step came in order, and was positive and good, according to new developments in the Kingdom, to keep up with the times."

Last Saturday, local media reports in Egypt revealed the establishment of Bishop Marcus Shoubra al-Khaymah (north of Cairo), the first Christian Orthodox mass in Saudi Arabia, as part of his current visit to the Kingdom at the invitation of the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia, scheduled to continue until 17 December.

The same sources said that "the first mass prayer was already held in Saudi Arabia, specifically in the capital, Riyadh, where a hall in the city was equipped, where the mass was held in the presence of dozens of Copts."
