The Egyptian government bulldozers continue to demolish the tanneries in the area of the historic Al-Ayyoun Wall (central Cairo), in preparation for transferring them to the city of Badr (east of Cairo).

Despite the objections of workers and tannery owners who exceed 1100 and follow traditional ancient methods of leather tanning, the government insists on demolishing them for environmental reasons.

The government also plans to exploit the region by setting up investment projects, hotels and tourist resorts.

The decision will cause harm to workers in the profession, especially as they will have to travel a long distance to reach their new workplace.
