Russia is to take a position on the European Court of Human Rights for launching the plane on flight MH17. The complaints of 380 relatives of the victims had been submitted to the Russian authorities, informed the Strasbourg court. At the beginning of processes, statements are generally requested from the states concerned.

At the launch in July 2014 over the contested eastern Ukraine, 298 people were killed. Most of the victims were Dutch. The Netherlands, Australia and other countries blame Russia for the disaster. The criminal investigation had revealed that the machine had been shot down with a Buk air defense missile. This had been brought from Russia to eastern Ukraine. Russia has so far rejected any responsibility for the launching of the machine.

The complainants from Germany, Australia, the Netherlands, the US and other countries accuse Russia of, among other things, violating the right to life. Moreover, the Russian authorities did not sufficiently contribute to the investigation of the case. When the court makes a decision in the case is unclear. It is not uncommon for trials before the Court to take several years.
