Saudi Arabia will not reopen its embassy in Syria without progress in the political process to end the war, Al-Jubeir ruled out the return of Syria to its seat in the League of Arab States.

The Saudi minister said in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Riyadh on Monday that it is too early to talk about reopening the Saudi embassy in Syria.

In December, the UAE reopened its embassy in Damascus, a move Abu Dhabi justified by seeking to restore the Arab role in Syria.

Al-Jubeir added that Syria's membership in the Arab League is also linked to progress in the political process in Syria.

The Arab League suspended Damascus seven years ago, and university officials have said recently that Syria's return to its seat requires the consensus of member states.

Reconstruction
Asked if his country would contribute to the reconstruction of Syria, he said that would happen after the end of the Syrian war and that stability and security in the country could be assured.

Reuters quoted sources earlier this month that the United States is pressing Saudi Arabia's support for other Gulf Arab states to stop the rehabilitation of the Syrian government.

In a related context, the Anatolia Agency reported that the Jordanian Civil Aviation Authority allowed the use of Syrian airspace on flights after banning the order for years because of the ongoing war in the country.
