Israel had hoped for years to recover the remains of Zachary Baumel and it was finally Russia that allowed the Jewish state to find the body of the soldier missing in 1982.

During his meeting in the Kremlin with Benyamin Netanyahu, Vladimir Putin lifted the veil on only part of the operation carried out according to him in collaboration with Syria.

" Our military with our Syrian partners spotted where he was buried. And we are very happy that he can receive military honors on his homeland. The most important is that his relatives have the opportunity to bloom his grave. I ask you to convey the warmest words to the parents of this soldier, "said the Russian president.

For his part, the Israeli Prime Minister has not failed to thank Vladimir Putin who demonstrates with this case the central position acquired in recent years by his country in the Middle East. Moscow thus manages to maintain good relations with the Jewish State while being the main ally of Syria of Bashar al-Assad.
