In CAR, a multi-purpose cultural hall, including a cinematographic projection, is being built in Bangui. A project that began two years ago, implemented at the Alliance Française in this country that is still struggling to emerge from the crisis. There have been movie theaters in the past in the capital, but all closed several years ago. This room of 325 m2 should partially fill a glaring lack in the world of culture in Central Africa by allowing the projection of films, but also the organization of concerts, live shows or conferences. The work launched on November 18th is about to be completed.

The workers finish building the large platform inside the room. It's Sunday, but everyone is working on the site.

Fred Ndachi, the master builder of this room, was not sure he could take up the challenge: " I did not believe it, because it was my very first time to make a movie theater. I had to make some trips outside to really try to get into the project. For the construction of such a building, the difficulties we encounter are the difficulties related to the equipment. There is not really any suitable equipment on site. At some point there was a lack of cables for the electrical installation. And then, there was a break in clims that are in the form of wardrobe. For me it's really a winning bet. "

A professional room with about 350 seats. Nothing is left to chance, matt paints for lighting, anti-reverberation ceilings, secure doors.

A bold project led by the director of the French Alliance in Bangui, Olivier Collin: " Why did I want to start this project? Because I considered that the Alliance Française had in the framework of its missions to benefit from a tool allowing the Central African and Central African to see in satisfactory conditions of the spectacles and the cinema. Yes it's a little crazy, but at the same time it's not a question that arises in Europe, so why it would arise in the Central African Republic? "

Olivier Collin is already working on cultural programming in the coming months. The goal also, the screening of two films every Saturday, one for children and one for the general public.

Inauguration 2-3 February 2019 with Claudy Siar and Tropical Colors in Bangui.
