According to Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU), the AfD has no right to a vice presidential post in parliament. "There is no legal claim," said the CDU politician. There was only one "agreement" in the Bundestag's Rules of Procedure that each parliamentary group could propose one candidate.

The AFD has so far failed with three candidates to get a vice presidency post. The party threatens to make a candidate for election each week of the week. "Why should I let myself be forced by a threat as a freely elected representative of the Bundestag to a decision?" Asked Schäuble.

"It is always only vice-president who receives the votes of the majority of members of the Bundestag in a secret ballot," said the CDU politician. "And if a proposed candidate does not get that majority, then he's not vice president, there's nothing unclear about it."
