No figures are yet available in Mali after the first round of presidential elections this Sunday. No indication on the participation and even less on the results. And less than 24 hours after the polls closed, the country is entering a delicate phase: the time has come to centralize the results.

Voters' words in Bamako

The operation of centralizing the results is going well, according to Bahamane Maiga, Secretary General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration. There were no incidents or excessive delays.

Until late Sunday evening, the accessors first counted the ballots. Now, the big challenge is to consolidate all these results.

This centralization is done in two stages. For the moment, we are still in the first phase. That is to say, where the administrative circles centralize the results of the polling stations. They must then send them to Bamako for national centralization.

So far, the Ministry of Territorial Administration has only received one report, that of the Kangaba circle, south of Bamako. But he expects to receive a large part this Monday night. This will be the second stage of centralization at the national level. The Ministry of Territorial Administration hopes to publish the full results by Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

This centralization is a crucial step for the transparency of the ballot. National and international observer missions fought to be able to witness every step of this compilation of results. The government has acceded to this request.

All observers can follow the committee compilation activities at the circle level. At the national level, 10 observers will be allowed: half national and half international.

Observers who have a little raised the tone these last hours. The European mission is still waiting for the list of polling stations where the ballot could not be held. And the Cocem, a national mission, asked this afternoon the detailed publication of the centralization of the results.

It is important to remember that we are moving to an even more critical phase.
