Mohamed Salah scored his 49th and 50th goals in the Premier League in Liverpool's tough victory against Crystal Palace (4-3) on Saturday (January 19th). The Egyptian prints a phenomenal pace since he wears the shirt of the Reds. And at the same time he climbs the hierarchy of scorers, his club believes more and more the title of champion he has been waiting for since 1990.

The double of Mohamed Salah, registered at Anfield on Saturday, January 19 during the 23rd day of the championship of England, will not remain in the annals for its beauty. More beautiful goals, the Egyptian has put a lot. But these two achievements are still very important. First, combined with those of Senegalese Sadio Mané and Brazilian Roberto Firmino, they allowed Liverpool to beat Crystal Palace (4-3) and thus maintain the leading position with still four points ahead of Manchester City . And then, these two goals bring Mo Salah into the court of the players to more than 50 achievements in the Premier League.

Only three players were faster

In all competitions, the Egyptian international is already 63 goals in Liverpool. But this more targeted figure of 50 goals in the Premier League is symbolic on the one hand, and representative of the size of the player on the other hand. Since his signing at the Reds in the summer of 2017, Mohamed Salah martyrises the defenses. The numbers speak for him.

No. 11 has scored his 50 goals in 72 Premier League matches. A speed rarely seen across the Channel. Mohamed Salah mimics a former Reds scorer: Fernando Torres, who also reached the 50-goal mark in 72 games. Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie, Cristiano Ronaldo, Teddy Sheringham ... All these great players have taken longer to achieve in the Premier League era (since 1992). Only Andy Cole (50 goals in 65 games), Alan Shearer (50 goals in 66 games) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (50 goals in 68 games) have done better.

And again, the statistics of Mohamed Salah are to be analyzed taking into account his debut in the Premier League. Before becoming the darling of Liverpool fans, the Egyptian had a much less impressive experience in Chelsea in 2013-2014 and for a few months in 2014-2015. With the Blues, he played 13 league games, including 8 as a substitute (and 5 games with less than 15 minutes of play), for 2 goals. Better used, or used in another register or club than this Chelsea, the Pharaoh could have reached 50 goals even faster.

Halfway Drogba's record

After the performance against the Crystal Palace Eagles, JĂĽrgen Klopp once again said all the good he thinks of his striker in series. " This is exceptional. It's an outstanding achievement for a world-class player, that's what it is, "said the coach, who gave himself a little joke afterwards:" I've heard the names of players who have been more fast: Shearer, Van Nistelrooy and Cole. Great scorers too ! Maybe Salah would have scored more if I had not made him play so often on the right wing ... So it's my fault ! "

In the hierarchy of African scorers in the Premier League, Mo Salah has also progressed. He has long held the title of top Egyptian striker in the history of the championship: his predecessor, Ahmed Hossam Mido, scored "only" 22 goals. Among all the goalscorers on the African continent, he is in eighth place with his 50 goals. No doubt he will be faster than Nigerians Efan Ekoku (7th place, 52 goals) and Nwankwo Kanu (5th place, 54 goals).

Among the players still active in the Premier League, he is still ahead of his teammate Senegalese Sadio Mané (6th place, 53 goals). But at the pace he prints, Mohamed Salah could quickly overtake him and get closer to the Ivorian Yaya Toure (4th place, 62 goals), Nigerian Yakubu Aiyegbeni (3rd place, 95 goals) and Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor (2nd place , 97 goals). The throne of the Ivorian Didier Drogba (1st place, 104 goals) appears to him very accessible, knowing that in a season and a half, the Scouser is almost half way. As a reminder, the former Blues scored 104 goals in nine seasons.

Finally a title for him and Liverpool?

Top scorer of the English league last season in front of Harry Kane (32 goals against 30 for the Englishman, crowned in 2016 and 2017), current top scorer in front of the Gabonese Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Harry Kane (16 goals against 14 for the Gunner and Spur), Mohamed Salah does not pursue only personal goals. Football is a collective sport, and precisely, the record of the Pharaoh of 26 years is currently very thin. Since the two consecutive titles of FC Basel in 2013 and 2014, Salah has won nothing. Vice-champion of Italy with AS Roma, finalist of the Champions League with Liverpool, vice-champion of Africa with Egypt: the titles are close but never won.

An evil that Liverpool shares in the Premier League. Since 1990, the Mersey club has not reigned over England. Steve McManaman, Jamie Redknaap, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard ... All have failed, during the last three decades, in this quest. The fans of the Reds hope that this long wait will come to an end in a few weeks. For now, their club is still in the lead. With a Salah always on top, the dream may become reality.
