Pompeo wrote in his Twitter microblog 40 years ago “extremists in Iran released 52 American diplomats who were held hostage for 444 days. Iran still holds innocent Americans hostage. ”
He called for Ayatollah Khamenei, Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif “to stop the campaign of terror with hostages” and “immediately release Bob Levinson, Siyue Van, (Siamak and Baker) Namazi and other hostages.”
In July 2017, US President Donald Trump called on Iran to return Robert Levinson, who has been held for more than ten years, to return the US, and also "demands the release of Siamak and Baker Namazi, captured during the Obama administration, and other Americans unfairly imprisoned in Iran."
