US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Monday that he had exchanged views on the continuing efforts to prevent the Philippine President Rodrigo Duerta and denuclearization.
The State Department added that the two discussed ways to promote regional security and counterterrorism cooperation and reaffirmed the longstanding US-Philippine alliance.
Pompei said in his Twitter account, "The United States and the Philippines are working closely with North Korea and the South China Sea on regional issues such as counter-terrorism," he said.
Pompei visited the Philippines on a two-day, two-day visit after the two-day North American summit in Hanoi, Vietnam.
He will also meet with Foreign Minister Teodoro Rokshin.
