The arrested for urgent terrorism suspicion in Mainz Syrians should be delivered quickly to the Netherlands. The Attorney General Koblenz will request as soon as possible the issue of an extradition order, the investigators said on Sunday.

The 26-year-old was arrested on Saturday in a cross-border police operation in which four men were detained in Rotterdam. They are accused of preparing a terrorist attack in the Netherlands.

According to the Dutch police, the four arrested in Rotterdam are between 20 and 30 years old and come from "non-Western countries". According to information from Dutch radio NOS, one of the detainees has a Syrian background, another an Egyptian one.

Dutch police asked for help

The authorities in Germany and the Netherlands did not provide details of the allegations: the investigations were still in full swing.

The magistrate at the district court in Mainz had issued on Sunday a so-called detention order. Thus, the arrested in Mainz 26-year-olds detained in Germany until the Higher Regional Court Koblenz decided on the extradition order. Not until the end of next week is expected to a decision on it. The Dutch police had asked for the extradition of the Syrian.

The 26-year-old had been arrested on Saturday in the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital, according to data from the State Office of Criminal Investigation (LKA). He had not yet been prosecuted in Germany. According to the Dutch police, he is resident in Rotterdam.

No preliminary investigation in Germany

In Mainz, the terrorist suspect, according to the investigators last in the apartment of a cousin resided. He was unarmed when arrested. Against the cousin will not be determined. During the search of the apartment, there had been no evidence that other people living in Germany were involved in the preparation for the attack or knew about it, said the Prosecutor General. Therefore, no preliminary investigation had been initiated in Germany.

According to NOS, a total of six apartments were searched. Weapons were not found. The police did not want to comment on this report.

In June, two men were arrested in Rotterdam for allegedly planned attacks on security forces in the Netherlands. In September, there were seven arrests of men who, according to the authorities, were planning a major attack. Of these, four came from the Rotterdam region.
