The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, Moussa Faki Mohammed, held talks with the Transitional Military Council in Sudan this afternoon, and then engaged in meetings with leaders of political parties and civil society organizations.

Feki's consultations in Khartoum are aimed at accelerating the handover of power to a civilian government, and comes after the council receives delegations from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt.

Feki had received two days ago in Addis Ababa a Sudanese delegation led by General Jalal Sheikh, member of the Transitional Military Council.

It is noteworthy that the African Peace and Security Council had given Sudan - on the fifteenth of this month - two weeks to hand over power to a civilian government.

The Council threatened to suspend the membership of the Sudan in all activities of the Union if the military did not respond to this request.

It is noteworthy that the Sudanese army announced on 11 April, the isolation of President Omar al-Bashir, following the mass protests and sit-ins demanding his departure.

A leader of the Sudanese Workers' Union of the Island confirmed that the gathering postponed its press conference scheduled for tomorrow to announce the names proposed for membership of the Civic Council and said the postponement was due to further consultations.

In contrast to the African Union, these Arab delegations did not hold discussions with the political currents and components of the revolution, but merely conferred with the leaders of the junta and confirmed their support for it.

Protests continue in Sudan demanding the departure of the military junta and the handover of power to a civilian sovereign council comprising representatives of the armed forces.

The gathering of Sudanese civilians in the coming days is expected to announce the names chosen to lead a civilian presidential council that will carry out the sovereign functions of the state during the interim period, in a move challenging the junta.

In an effort to calm down, the President of the Sudanese Military Council, General Abdul-Fattah al-Burhan, that he is currently working to complete the demands of the masses of the Sudanese people and the objectives of the revolution.

"They came for the people and to complete the demands of their revolution, especially the demands of the protesters in the vicinity of the leadership," Burhan told the Sudanese newspaper Al-Jarida in its Saturday edition.
