On January 7, the account of the "prisoners of conscience" said that al-Amari was in a coma after suffering severe brain hemorrhage and was transferred to intensive care in a Jeddah hospital between life and death due to medical negligence during his detention in solitary confinement in prisons Saudi.

Saudi authorities arrested Amari with one of his sons after a raid on their home last August in the context of a "fierce campaign" against those close to Sheikh Safar al-Hawali, days after the spread of a book attributed to him and includes advice to the ruling family and the senior scientists close to power.
