Vice President Teodorin Nguema Obiang's television channel accuses the Spanish ambassador in Malabo of appearing alongside opponent Andres Esono Ondo and seeking to "destabilize" Equatorial Guinea.

The scene is happening Thursday at the Malabo airport. Andres Esono Ondo , Secretary General of the Convergence for Social Democracy (CPDS), returns home after 13 days in detention in Chad. At the airport, the opponent is greeted by relatives and by the Spanish ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Guillermo López Mac-Lellan.

Photos circulate on social networks. One of them attracts the attention of Asonga Television, which belongs to Vice President Teodorin Nguema Obiang, the president's son. This image, assures a presenter who reads a statement, shows that Spain is " as always " at the origin of attempts to destabilize Equatorial Guinea. For Asonga television, the ambassador interferes " without any qualms " in the internal affairs of Equatorial Guinea.

Madrid denies. In response to RFI, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalls that the CPDS is a legally recognized party and ensures that the behavior of the diplomat is therefore not " illegal ". The ministry also points out that no charges are brought against Andres Esono Ondo and alleges that Malabo has not proved his participation in any coup attempt. For Madrid, nothing indicates that a putsch was really in preparation.

After the arrest of the opponent in Chad, Malabo had indeed accused him of having for " sole purpose the acquisition of weapons and ammunition and the recruitment of terrorists to commit a coup in Guinea equatorial with foreign financing ".
