“The active phase of strengthening the border guard system will begin next week,” Ukrinform quotes Assistant Chairperson of the State Border Service, spokesman Oleg Slobodyan.
It is specified that the reinforcement will affect border guards at checkpoints and outside of them, technical means and service dogs will be attracted, as well as interaction with other law enforcement agencies and the Armed Forces of the country will be expanded. In addition, the size of the border will increase by 25-30%.
According to Slobodyan, measures have been taken to prevent various provocations, including the transport of ammunition and explosives, as well as to prevent unwanted persons.
At the same time, additional control posts of border guards and the National Police will be set up on the border with Russia, it is also planned to organize the duty of the State Border Service aviation forces.
At the end of February, it was reported that the border guards had prevented about 1,500 Russians from entering the Ukraine since the beginning of 2019.
