The mayor of the village of Tibillo in Peru was elected on Friday, October 12, head to head, against his cousin.

A flip-flop was used to elect Friday Friday (October 12th) the mayor of an isolated Andean village in Peru, where two candidates were tied after the poll, announced the National Elections Commission.

In Tibillo, in the region of Ica (south-west), the chance smiled on Wilbert Estrada, of the centrist party Popular Action.

"Thanks to the Virgin of my village, the drawing of lots was favorable to me. I am very happy to work to advance this forgotten village , " said the winner to reporters.

Mr. Estrada defeated his own cousin, Javier Gallegos, of the Regional Movement for Modernity.

Both had 102 votes out of a total of 347 votes cast in the October 7 municipal elections. Two other candidates shared the rest.

This unusual election took place in public, in the premises of the Special Electoral Commission of the Ica region. The coin was launched by the village police commissioner.

A first draw determined which candidate would inherit which side of the coin. For the winner, it was right, and for the loser, face.
