The United States and France agree to put an end to the tax impunity of multinationals, in particular those of the digital world. US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday, February 27 in Paris alongside his French counterpart Bruno Le Maire. But it is at the global level that a solution must be found and not country by country like this tax "GAFA" that France intends to pass by the summer.

It's no secret that the United States is opposed to the projects that have flourished in Europe , in France in particular to tax the turnover of GAFAM (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft).

" We are against the digital tax proposed by France. We are pleased that France decides to repeal this text if a better solution is found at the global level within the OECD. So we hope to be able to resolve this issue by the end of the year, "said Steven Mnuchin, US Treasury Secretary.

Solve by 2020 the issue at the OECD level that has been working for years on the subject, in vain, Bruno Le Maire, the French Minister of Economy wants to believe it too.

" There will be a national tax , as you know, in France, but we believe that we must reach a solution as quickly as possible at the OECD level, because a global, multilateral solution would obviously be the best solution for all the countries concerned, "said the minister.

France presides this year the G7 Finance also advocates for a minimum tax on multinationals whether digital or not. Here too, the United States is in favor, which could make things happen. It remains to be seen according to which criteria. There should be disagreements.
