On Saturday, January 19, a representative of the International Organization for Migration, Flavio di Giacomo, reported that almost 120 people were missing during the shipwreck with migrants off the coast of Libya.
On January 20, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that two shipwrecks had occurred in the Mediterranean over the past few days, in which 170 migrants died or went missing.
